My Five Favorite Christmas Songs

I think that as I get older, I am less inclined to be excited about Christmas music.  After all, singing “Jingle Bells” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” just doesn’t have the same appeal that it had 20 years ago.  Nevertheless, there are some Christmas songs that will always be near and dear to my heart.  Check them out (in no particular order):

  1. O Holy Night- The words of the song always tap right into my faith, and speak to me.  It generally doesn’t matter who sings it, so long as they CAN sing, but Mariah Carey’s version, along with John Legend’s version are two of my favorites.
  2. Silent Night (by the Temptations)- Enough said.  It’s beautiful, and it’s a classic.
  3. O Little Town of Bethlehem- This was one of the first songs I learned on the piano when I was four years old.  I remember it because it was in my “Charlie Brown’s Christmas” sheet music that someone gave me as a gift.  As I’ve grown in my faith, the words of it mean so much more, but as a child it helped to pique my interest in music and my study of the piano.
  4. This Christmas (by Donny Hathaway)- Is an explanation needed?  Again, it’s a classic.
  5. O Come, All Ye Faithful- I honestly just feel that this is a beautiful song.  I’m often moved when I hear “O come let us adore him…”, wondering if in all the things that I do, if I actually demonstrate adoration for God.  Hmmm..

Just thought I’d share my five favorite Christmas songs in the spirit of the Season.  What are your five favorite Christmas songs?

Five Albums That Never Get Old To Me…

I love music, but often don’t have time to listen to it.  My impatience generally leads me to be frustrated with the radio, which then causes me to transition to my Ipod.  Since I live a good distance away from some of the things in life that I enjoy, being able to have my music with me is imperative.  There’s nothing like driving in the car, listening to music, feeling like you don’t have a care in the world.  That said, here are five albums that never get old to me; that I can listen to all the way through without skipping a track, and just make me feel good.  They’re listed in no particular order:

1.  Kanye West: The College Dropout

2.  Jay-Z: The Blueprint

3. Lauryn Hill: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

4.  Kirk Franklin: Hero

5.  Tie: Kanye West- Late Registration and 2Pac: Makaveli

It was definitely a struggle to come up with just five, which is why there’s a tie.  But, which five albums never get old to you?

Rest In Peace, Michael

I’ve been refreshing my tabs from CNN, MSNBC, and TMZ; and they’ve eventually arrived at the same conclusion: Michael Jackson has died.

Sigh. Unbelievable.

Rest in Peace, Michael.

Really Louisiana Legislature?

Shout out to A-Dub for showing me this YouTube link.

You’d think that there would be other topics to discuss in the Louisiana State Legislature instead of having Hurricane Chris perform. I get it. I know you want to recognize the Shreveport native for his accolades and hard work. But is this really the time? How about taking care of the budget issues, education, and poverty that is plaguing the state? Or taking care of the issues that are still present because of Hurricane Katrina?

Instead, you result to this:

While there are plenty of things that make me laugh in this video, I’m really saddened by this. And it’s not just the Louisiana legislature. Our elected officials are really slacking on their responsibilities as leaders across the board. It’s time that we demand more, and hold them accountable. We deserve better.

Which Song Lyric Describes Your Life

I love music, and part of the reason that I love music, is that I feel like there’s always a song to describe a situation; sometimes better than any words that I could ever find.  Last night while preparing for bed, I randomly thought of this: if there were one song lyric to describe my life RIGHT NOW, what would it be?  I chose the chorus from T.I.’s song GOODLIFE:

“I keep telling myself, Man, I’m living the goodlife…”

Yeah, I think that pretty much sums how I feel about life right now.  So, if there were ONE song lyric to describe your life RIGHT NOW, what would it be?
